Running for office in the Texas Gulf Coast?

--

Thinking about running for office next year? Filing for the March 2024 primary opens this Saturday, November 11th.

The unions of the Gulf Coast endorse candidates who are committed to fighting for working people in elected office. If you’re planning to run, get in touch if you want to be considered for a labor endorsement.

Members from our 95 local union affiliates consider endorsements for municipal, county, state, and federal candidates running for office in Harris, Fort Bend, Galveston, Brazoria, Montgomery, Walker, Brazos, Waller, Matagorda, Wharton, Austin, Chambers, and Liberty counties.

Questionnaires and screening invitations will be sent to all candidates who file to run for office in our region via email starting on December 14th, regardless of party affiliation. Candidates must return a completed questionnaire to be considered for endorsement.

To help candidates better understand the work of Gulf Coast unions, our members, and our policy agenda, we will be hosting two candidate academies. These will both take place before we begin considering endorsements.

After we endorse, we mobilize our members and working people throughout our region to the polls. Union-powered electoral mobilization programs have won big in the last few years:

The Texas Gulf Coast Area Labor Federation (TGCALF), AFL-CIO unites the power of 95 unions with over 60,000 members living in 13 counties to advocate for working families in the Texas Gulf Coast.

We mobilize our members and community partners to demand a fair shot at better lives for all working people — regardless of the color of our skin, which country we come from, or whom we love.
