“Far too many of our neighbors are struggling right now due to unchecked corporate greed. We need leaders in office who will fight to empower working people to take back what what’s ours, and after an extensive, months-long vetting process, the Gulf Coast labor movement is proud to have so many allies in the fight.”

On December 16th, 2021, union delegates of the Texas Gulf Coast Area Labor Federation voted unanimously to endorse Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo for re-election. On January 10th, they voted again to confer early endorsements upon Commissioner Adrian Garcia (Harris County Commissioner, Precinct 2), Lesley Briones (Harris County Commissioner, Precinct 4), Rep. Alma Allen (House District 131), and Candis Houston (House District 142).

Recommendations for Texas House, Texas Senate, State Board of Education, and Congress now go to the Texas AFL-CIO COPE Convention on January 21st, where they must be ratified by the Texas AFL-CIO COPE (Committee on Political Education) committee, along with all other state and federal recommendations from central labor bodies across Texas.

The Texas Gulf Coast Area Labor Federation (TGCALF), AFL-CIO unites the power of 92 unions across 13 counties to advocate for working families in the Texas Gulf Coast, including over 50,000 workers in Harris County. We mobilize our members and community partners to demand a fair shot at better lives for all working people — regardless of the color of our skin, which country we come from, or whom we love.
